Sleek MakeUP Crème to Powder Foundation: Chocolate Fudge

During the warmer months I tend to opt for a powder foundation to counter my oily T-Zone, rummaging through my make-up bag the other day I found myself reaching for my Sleek MakeUp Crème to Powder foundation and smiling.  Sleek offer a wide range of foundation shades for WOC (28 no less), so I was a little daunted but the gods on me and I stumbled onto their Pop-Up event in Stratford where an excellent make-up artist matched me to Chocolate Fudge. 

How do I apply?

After applying a primer I will use a stippling brush (or my Elf Powder Brush) to apply this crème texture foundation. The texture converts to a powder with the finish ranging from medium to full depending on application.

Pros, Cons

The colour match, price point and decent size allow this foundation to be a regular for me. It is extremely rare for me to find a foundation in a high street store that just works with my skin tone so kudos to Sleek / Superdrug for creating a decent product and stocking it in their stores. The compact has survived a LOT of trauma in  my bag so I can truthfully attest to it's durability; be warned- it will cake if you use too much so be careful and unlike some foundations, I find that it transfers easily if it isn't set with a powder.

Sleek MakeUp Be Beautiful Balm (Review)

The announcement that Sleek MakeUp had decided to enter into the BB (Beauty Balm) market left me excited. As a Woman of Colour I was miffed that many of the cosmetic companies had largely ignored my skin shade and the entry of a product from Sleek was sure to make up for this, right? 

Hmm, well sort of. 

There are only four shades of the Be Beautiful Blemish Balm: Fair, Light, Medium and Dark.

As Sleek MakeUp create over thirty different shades in their  foundation range, I found it hard to understand why they felt that they could try to fit us all into only four shades in their BB range.

 My shade in Sleek’s foundation is Hot Chocolate which, at three shades from the end, is on the darker end of  their spectrum. I naturally reached for the ‘Dark’ box but found the shade far too red for me; the Medium shade was on the yellow side but blended in enough to convince me to buy it.  

Positives:

• I loved the fact that I only need a small amount and a decent coverage was produced.  
• It was light enough to be used during warm weather and so will be my go-to base for holiday looks abroad.
• Love that it contains SPF (protect your Skin!)
• Price - glad that they kept the range afforable.

The only negatives for me were:

• Oily finish- something I think anyone with an oily T-Zone will always encounter with these types of products.
• Lack of shades- I adore Sleek but feel that they have missed a trick in not expanding their range, particularly on the Women of Colour shades.
• Chemical Smell- took me a while to get used to.

Sleek MakeUp: Blush

I typically don’t wear that much make during warmer months and find myself reaching for a bit of powder blush when I want to add a bit of colour to my face. Sleek's blushes, famed for their super pigmentation, are always in my makeup bag and so I thought I’d share a few of my favourites singles with you. 

 

Whilst I don’t tend to worry about touching up - seriously, the pigmentation is that good, the sleek (pun intended) black packaging makes each blush suitable for even the smallest of clutches / purses. 

Initially, I had a love-hate relationship with Pan-Tao as it doesn’t show up on my skin when bare, but I have learnt that it mixes well with blushes and to use a heavier hand.

 

On the whole I recommend these blushes to all women, irrespective of your colour,  as they are excellent value considering the quality!
